I am working on developing a high-temperature material that will replace current nickel-based superalloys used in jet engine applications. I am working on the Ti-Al-Nb system to which we add a beta stabilizer in order to obtain the desired two-phase microstructure (σ-phase present in a matrix of γ-phase). At present, we are experimenting with different compositions of the alloy and various beta stabilizers. We hope to produce a material with good toughness and creep resistance at elevated temperatures.
